The story behind Café Hop en Heivuur
Some cafés are just a place to have a drink. Others become like a second living room. This café falls into the latter category.
When the café was sold and it looked like it would be closing its doors, many people in the neighborhood felt as though a familiar gathering place was disappearing. For Rick, the decision was easy: this place couldn't disappear. As a regular, he decided to take over the café himself, so that the bar—which held so many memories—could continue to exist.

The faces behind the bar
A neighborhood bar isn’t just about beer—it’s mainly about people. That’s why you’ll see several familiar faces behind the bar at Hop en Heivuur.
In the beginning, Joris and Jorik helped keep the bar running. Even today, familiar faces like Boris, Marjolein (Joost), and Martijn can regularly be found behind the bar. Jorik also hosts the music pub quiz once every two weeks, which keeps him a regular part of the atmosphere.
Marjolein (Friso) recently joined the team. With her years of experience in the hospitality industry, she not only brings energy to the floor but also helps behind the scenes with day-to-day operations. She’s a great addition that both guests and colleagues are happy to have.

A café from and for the community
How easily new visitors become part of the regular crowd is what makes Hop en Heivuur special. You might walk in as a stranger, but before you know it, you’re striking up a conversation and feeling like you belong.
Rick and the team want to preserve that feeling: a café where you’re always welcome, where people know each other, and where an evening spontaneously lasts longer than planned.
